Checklist Summary:

The Microsoft Azure SQL Database Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) is published as a tool to improve the security of Department of Defense (DOD) information systems. This document provides technical security policies, requirements, and implementation details for applying security concepts to the Microsoft Azure SQL Database configuration and administrative web portal access. It is meant to be used as applicable to the database host environment. It is based on the Database Security Requirements Guide (SRG) Version 2, Release 10, which derives its cybersecurity controls from National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Special Publication (SP) 800-53, Revision 4. Microsoft Azure SQL Database is a managed cloud database provided as part of Microsoft Azure. A cloud database is a database that runs on a cloud computing platform, and access to it is provided as a service. Managed database services take care of scalability, backup, and high availability of the database. Microsoft Azure SQL Database should be configured on a DOD tenant with applicable FedRamp controls.
