The Azure SQL Managed Instance Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) is published as a tool to improve the security of Department of Defense (DOD) information systems. This document is meant for use in conjunction with other STIGs, as applicable to the database host environment and appropriate operating system STIGs. Azure SQL Managed Instance is a Platform as a Service (PaaS) offering that provides a fully managed, isolated, and highly compatible environment for running SQL Server databases in the cloud as part of Microsoft Azure. Azure handles the underlying infrastructure, including patching, backups, and high availability. Microsoft Azure SQL Managed Instance must be configured on a DOD tenant with applicable FedRamp controls.
